Liquor License Feed

Wyoming: New bars and restaurants to quote, and who to ask for.

A liquor license filing names the business, the owner where the state prints one, the address and what it will pour, weeks before it opens. That's your window for liquor liability, property and workers' comp.

Common questions

Can I quote before the license issues?

That's when many applicants need you. Minnesota and Oregon, for example, want proof of liquor liability before a license issues, and many Massachusetts and Illinois towns ask for a certificate with the application. Rules vary by state and town, so check the local one. Some ask for a certificate, not a binder.

Is it a new venture or an existing risk?

The filing says where we can tell. First license at the address usually means a new venture. New owner means a takeover of a place already open, so ask about the prior carrier and loss runs.

Will I know what they'll pour?

Yes. The license type shows full bar, beer and wine, or retail, in plain words.

Who do I ask for?

The owner or officer where public records name one. Some filings show only an LLC or a registered agent.

Will I see enforcement history?

In Connecticut, Texas and Washington, yes. Subscribers see a suspension or other action on the license or at the address in the last 12 months, with its date and the state's record.
