Liquor License Feed

South Dakota liquor license types, in plain words

What each DOR license or permit allows, in the statute's own words, with a note on who usually holds it. Every filing on the South Dakota page is labeled this way.

Store, beer, wine and spirits to go (Package Liquor)

the sale of any alcoholic beverage for consumption off the premises where sold

A liquor store, grocery or drug store.

Beer and SD farm wine (Retail Malt Beverage)

Malt beverage and wine produced by a farm winery licensee, being both package dealers and on-sale dealers

Beer and wine by the glass or to take home. Every kind of place that sells beer holds one, so the name tells you what it is.

Bar or restaurant, beer, wine and spirits by the drink (Retail Liquor)

the sale of any alcoholic beverage for consumption only upon the premises where sold

A bar, lounge or restaurant pouring spirits. Cities issue a set number, so many arrive as transfers.

Restaurant, hotel or shop, wine and cider (Retail Wine)

Wine and cider retailers, being both package dealers and on-sale dealers

Wine and cider by the glass or the bottle. Restaurants, hotels, shops and salons hold one.

Full-service restaurant, beer, wine and spirits (Full-Service Restaurant)

the governing board of any incorporated municipality or the board of county commissioners of any county may, by ordinance, issue additional on-sale licenses for full-service restaurants

A sit-down restaurant pouring spirits under a license outside the city's cap on bar licenses.

Liquor delivery from a store (Package Liquor Delivery)

Off-sale delivery

Rides on a store's package license; not a new store.

Convention center bar (Convention Facility On-Sale)

Convention facility on-sale

Airport bar or restaurant (Airport On-Sale)

On-sale dealers at publicly operated airports
