How to look up a liquor license in Virginia
Use the ABC's lookup at www.abc.virginia.gov to check one license by name, number or address. This page lists what's new, from the same record.
Every row here is a public record Virginia publishes. We check each state's rules before we carry it and leave out any that restrict commercial use of licensee lists; so far that's only Kansas. About the data.
Where Virginia publishes them: new filings in Virginia, the public source and what it shows.
What each license allows: Virginia liquor license types, in plain words.

Questions about the Virginia page
How do I find new liquor license applications in Virginia?
Virginia publishes them at www.abc.virginia.gov, where its tools answer one search at a time. This page reads that record as often as Virginia updates it and lists what's new by county, city and license type, each row linked back to the filing.
Can I get an alert when a new bar or restaurant shows up in Virginia?
Yes. The free Watch email sends each week's Virginia list on Monday: city, license type, status and date, without business names. A Virginia subscription, $79 a month, sends every new filing the morning after it appears, with the business name and address, and for new bars and restaurants a phone number or website looked up online where the state prints none. A CSV, an API and webhooks come with every plan.
How often does the Virginia page update?
The Virginia source refreshes every weekday, and this page is rebuilt from it each morning.
Where does the Virginia data come from?
Every row is read from www.abc.virginia.gov, the public record Virginia itself publishes, and links back to it. Nothing here comes from a reseller or a news report.
What does the free Virginia sample contain?
Every Virginia filing from one recent full week, in the layout a subscriber gets: business, address, license type, status, the date filed, and a phone or website where we found one. The link to each state record is left blank; subscribers get it. It downloads ready for HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive, AgencyZoom or Repsly.
What do the license types mean?
The types you will see most on the Virginia page. Restaurant or caterer, by the drink (Restaurant or Caterer): A restaurant, bar or caterer applying to serve drinks. Store, wine and beer to go (Specialty Establishment): Mostly convenience stores, country stores and wine or cheese shops. Free wine or beer for customers at a salon or boutique (Marketplace): Nail salons, barbers and boutiques that give customers a free glass while they wait. Hotel bar and restaurant (Hotel): A hotel's bar, restaurant or room service. Winery (Winery): A winery, usually with a tasting room. Every row shows the type by its plain name; the i beside it opens the state's own wording.
What is left out?
One-day and temporary permits (weddings, festival booths, charity auctions, tastings), and licenses nobody sells to: wholesalers, suppliers, importers, shippers, carriers, and employee or manager permits. Breweries, wineries and distilleries stay in. The first time we read a state we also treat everything it already listed as the starting point, not as new filings.
Are Virginia renewals in the feed?
No. Renewals, reissues and reprints come out, so a filing here should mean a new place, a new owner or a move. State records are messy, so write to us if one slips through.
